The long saga of Fredericton’s search for a new, reliable pool is one step closer to completion.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, council unanimously voted to identify the Grant-Harvey Centre expansion as their preferred option for a new 25-metre pool, which city staff described as “tender-ready.”
According to the approved motion, staff will now “pursue federal and provincial funding, engage with potential funding and project planners, and assess the viability of a community-led capital fundraising campaign.”
The chief administrative officer would then return to council with a funding plan so councillors could weigh the financial implications and decide if they would like to proceed.
“I think this council is obviously showing this is our number 1 priority,” Mayor Steve Hicks said to reporters after the meeting.
