A former abortion clinic and unofficial transgender-care clinic in Fredericton that has been vacant for over a year is getting a new tenant, which plans to offer a range of services to youth.

Fredericton council approved a three-year lease Monday night for the John Howard Society at 554 Brunswick St.

The non-profit organization plans to operate an integrated youth service hub there, said Rose-Marie Stewart, a youth equity liaison with the society, who gave a presentation at the council meeting.

“We want to see our youth be successful,” Stewart said. “We need to have something where all youth feel they belong.
