New Brunswick’s expropriation officer says the City of Fredericton is free to expropriate its exhibition grounds, according to documents published by the city.

The city released the documents ahead of a special council meeting on Sunday afternoon. The only item on the agenda is confirmation of the “intent to expropriate” the leasehold interest held by Fredericton Exhibition Limited.

Marley McLellan, a spokesperson for the city, said Mayor Kate Rogers wasn’t available for an interview ahead of the meeting.

“City council has not yet made a decision on this matter,” she said.
