A New Brunswick man sent to prison two months ago for a series of financial crimes has been released on bail as his appeal unfolds.
Daniel Bard, 61, was sentenced in Moncton in July to five years on four counts of fraud, one count of attempted fraud, five counts of possessing property obtained by crime and one count of money laundering.
The crimes span from 2016 to 2020 in communities across New Brunswick, some happening while Bard was vice-president of investment attraction for 3+ Corp.
The organization was a municipally funded economic development agency serving the Moncton region.
His trial heard he would seek deposits from businesses to help secure larger financing but kept the funds when the financing didn’t materialize.
