Police investigators in Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe are now working in specialized units that officials hope will improve the Codiac RCMP’s ability to solve both property crimes and “serious person crimes” such as sexual assault and domestic violence.
Codiac Supt. Benoit Jolette said the restructuring is in line with how other forces tackle investigations.
“If we think about any large police service, they have a property crime team, they have a sexual assault unit, they have a domestic violence unit,” Jolette said. “We did not.”
Codiac’s general investigative unit previously handled “everything under the sun,” Jolette said.
