RCMP are investigating after a body was discovered inside a home burned in a “suspicious” fire in rural western New Brunswick Thursday morning.
Members of the Woodstock RCMP and Lakeville Fire Department responded to the fire on Route 560 in Deerville, about 19 kilometres north of Woodstock, shortly after 5 a.m.
“Once the fire was extinguished, police learned that the body of an individual had been discovered inside the residence damaged by the fire,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Hans Ouellette said in a news release issued Friday afternoon.
The RCMP’s major crime unit has taken over the case and is treating both the death and fire as suspicious, he said.
No other details are provided. RCMP officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
The fire marshal’s office and coroner’s office are assisting with the investigation,
