ATV riders are interrupting training, according to the Department of National Defence, causing Base Gagetown to close their trails to the public. (CBC)
All-terrain vehicle trails on 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown have been closed to the public.
The Department of National Defence said in a public statement that the decision was made because of “safety and security concerns, trespassing and environmental violations including the construction of unauthorized structures, such as temporary bridges that pose personal risks to users.”
Before the closure, riders could access the trails by calling agents from the base and “sign in” with the number of vehicles entering the property.
According to Harold Bromley, president of the CFB Gagetown ATV Club, this has been the norm for decades.
