A Moncton judge will hear arguments next week on whether Daniel Ray Downey should be released from custody as he awaits trial on 23 charges, including personation of a peace officer.
In Moncton provincial court Friday, Judge Paul Duffie scheduled Downey’s bail hearing for Wednesday.
The 58-year-old is accused of conspiring and attempting to personate a peace officer after RCMP seized firearms, pieces of police uniforms, a Ford Taurus, radios, lights and sirens in August from two homes in Pointe-du-Chêne, in the Shediac area of southeastern New Brunswick.
Downey is also accused of possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to several people, arson, conspiring to commit a crime and attempting to commit a crime.
Charges against Downey were originally laid Aug. 27, and additional charges were laid on Aug. 29. He is now in custody.
