Award-Winning Indigenous Country Artist Jerry Sereda Honours Those Closest to Him With Brand New Single, "LightHouse"

Multi-award winning Canadian Country artist, Jerry Sereda, is known for his energetic stage presence, evocative storytelling, and his impressive ability to unite classic and modern Country sounds. Hailing from Treaty 1 Territory and spending a great deal of family time on Matheson Island, the Winnipeg-based artist and academic educator draws from his Indigenous roots to inform both his songwriting and the advancement of Indigenous issues across the province. Having topped the Indigenous Music Countdown multiple times, Sereda has also taken home the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award for “Best Country Album”, a North American Indigenous Image Award for “Best Music Video”, and has a whopping five Manitoba Country Music Award nominations. The Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards and Western Canadian Music Awards have also recognized the artist, and his songs have been played across Canada on CBC and satellite radio. Drawing comparisons to the Country artist that inspires him most, Garth Brooks, Sereda’s lively performances and powerful vocals have drawn crowds everywhere he goes, and have cemented his reputation as a must-see performer. Deeply connected to his Indigenous heritage, Sereda uses both his Masters Degree in education and counselling to create a framework for Manitoba educators to teach Indigenous history, and draws upon his Métis roots to inform his songwriting and playing – crediting his grandmother, Dottie, for teaching him Cree traditions and how to play his first chords on the guitar. As he gears up to release his fifth studio album this summer, Jerry Sereda will be releasing a brand new single, “Lighthouse”, dedicated to the people who support him most. “Lighthouse” is out today – Monday, May 15 2023.

Co-written with Joni Delaurier and Chris O’Neil, Sereda one again partnered with his longtime producer, Troy Kokol, who also mixed the track.

About “Lighthouse”:

Written as a song to honour those who have always been there for him, Jerry Sereda’s “Lighthouse” is a mid-tempo Modern Country anthem infused with speckles of Pop and classic Country guitar. Showcasing a more vulnerable side of the artist, Sereda first penned the song in appreciation for his friends, family, colleagues, and other supporters who have shown up for him in times of need, seeing past his usual strong-front and being there to encourage and lift up the artist. Having spent a great deal of time on Matheson Island, the idea of water and the guiding light of a lighthouse came naturally to the artist, who uses the metaphor of the structure’s shining light as a comparison to those in his life who guide him home. Morphing into its current state as a love song, Sereda showcases the strength of his dynamic vocal range and penmanship which he tied into the beautiful, mid-tempo melody the song has today. Flowing between the bridge where Sereda sings about his self-doubts, to the unforgettable force of the ballad-styled, grateful and appreciative chorus, Jerry Sereda’s “Lighthouse” offers listeners a unique and relatable glimpse into a different side of the artist.

Jerry Sereda’s fifth studio album will be released in June 2023, featuring “Lighthouse”, and previously released singles “Backroad Therapy” and “My Favourite Sin”. The artist will be performing across Manitoba this summer, with plans to bring his show outside of the province as well.

Manitoba-based musician Jerry Sereda is a decorated Country artist who can’t help but capture music fans everywhere he goes. With his gripping and energetic live performances, Jerry celebrates his Indigenous heritage by weaving personal stories and experiences into his delightfully catchy songs.

Beginning his music career as the winner of a local music contest who earned the opportunity to record his first single, the 2010 Indigenous Music Awards Best New Artist has firmly established his roots in the Canadian Country music scene. Drawing comparisons to the vocal and live performance style of Country legends Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, Jerry has shared the stage with prominent Country artists including four-time JUNO award winner Johnny Reid and Canadian Country Music Association award recipient Jason Blaine. With four successful albums in his outstanding discography, Jerry has received numerous accolades throughout his flourishing career, including a Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award for “Best Country Album”, a North American Indigenous Image Award for “Best Music Video”, and three Manitoba Country Music Award nominations.
