While New Brunswickers are lining up at the polling stations to vote in Monday’s local government elections, students at Nackawic Elementary School have already cast their ballots.

And they aren’t the only ones. There are 177 New Brunswick schools participating in the Student Vote program through Civix for the municipal election — where students vote in a mock election with real candidates.

Student Brooklyn Morehouse was happy to have the chance to vote on Friday.

“You start us at such a young age, so then you kind of build a habit, so you’ll be less nervous to vote when you’re 18,” Brooklyn said.
