Summer on the Saint John waterfront just got bigger. The AREA 506 Waterfront Festival is returning to Saint John for its 11th annual celebration, and for the first time, it’s expanding to four full days. If you’ve been to this festival before, or you’re planning your first trip down to Water Street, here’s everything you need to know.
When & Where
The 2026 edition runs from Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2, timed to the New Brunswick Day long weekend as always. The festival transforms Water Street and the Saint John waterfront into what organizers are calling the biggest music event of the summer.
The event is all ages, so it’s a good option for families as well as festival regulars.
Full Lineup
Your weekend pass gets you access to 25 bands over four days of music on the Saint John waterfront, including:
Headliners & touring acts: The Dead South, Soul Asylum, Marianas Trench, The Glorious Sons, Wolf Parade, Valley, Wheatus, Kathleen Edwards, Crash Test Dummies, The Dirty Nil, Marcy Playground, Customer Service, and Beauts, plus Matt Mays.
New Brunswick artists: Grand Theft Bus, The Martin Boys, Kylie Fox, Zack Ingles, La Patente, Waylon Napadogan, Penny & The Pits, Constant Greetings, Caged Animals, Dad Patrol, and Nate and the Busy Boys, along with Absolute Losers.
Each night features a packed Main Stage schedule showcasing international headliners, Canadian favourites, and strong representation from New Brunswick and Atlantic Canadian artists. Roughly, The Dead South, Kathleen Edwards, Kylie Fox and Zack Ingles open things up, followed by Soul Asylum, Crash Test Dummies, Marcy Playground and Grand Theft Bus, with the weekend building toward Matt Mays, Valley, The Glorious Sons and Wolf Parade, alongside The Dirty Nil, Caged Animals and more.
Beyond the Main Stage
Music isn’t the only draw. The award-winning AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village — winner of the VIA Rail Canada Innovator of the Year Award at the 2022 Canadian Tourism Awards — returns with a full program of family-friendly activities, pop-ups, food trucks, and an always-popular vendor market throughout the weekend. Expect a culture stage and experiential activities layered in around the main programming.
Tickets & Pricing
Festival passes went on sale March 26th at 5 p.m., exclusively at area506.ca. For 2026, organizers are offering a range of ticketing options including general admission, VIP, and — new this year — 10-person VIP Cabanas, available in very limited quantities.
Pricing starts at a Regular GA Weekend Pass beginning at $349, with tiered pricing kicking in April 1 or once Early Bird passes sell out (pricing exclusive of taxes and fees). Payment plans are also available to spread the cost over time.
Since a limited number of passes remain, it’s worth checking availability directly on the official site before you plan your trip.
Quick Tips for Festival-Goers
- Camping isn’t offered on-site, so plan to book a hotel or other lodging in Saint John ahead of time — the New Brunswick Day weekend fills up fast.
- Go early in the day if you want to check out the Container Village market and food trucks without the evening crowds.
- Layer up for waterfront weather — Saint John evenings can turn cool even in late July/early August, and the site is right on the water.
- Buy passes early — with the festival expanding to four days for the first time and a strong headliner list, tiers are likely to move quickly.
Whether you’re there for The Dead South’s bluegrass energy, Marianas Trench’s pop hooks, or discovering New Brunswick acts like Kylie Fox and Grand Theft Bus, AREA 506’s 11th year looks like its biggest yet. See you on the waterfront.
