Last night well over 300 people filled to overflowing a basement gallery in Fredericton’s Beaverbrook Art Gallery to hear and see presentations from Maritime architects. John Leroux was the MC and introduced Steve Kopp and Monica Adair seen in the main image above from the Saint John firm, Acre (www.theacre.ca), and Christian Héber and Léo Goguen (image below), from the Moncton firm Design Plus (www.designplus.pro/).
Due to the weather Omar Ghandi from the Halifax firm Omar Ghandi Architect (omargandhi.com/) was unable to attend so John pinch hit (image below) with notes and slides that magically made it past the limitations of winter travel. (How did they do that?)
John noted all three firms have recently been honoured with prestigious awards for architecture and the work they displayed certainly made the point with the audience. Monica won the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada 2015 Young Architect Award; Design Plus received the New Brunswick Lieutenant-Governor’s Architectural Award of Merit; and among any other awards, the Professional Prix de Rome Winner, 2014, Canada Council for the Arts.
BTW, the youngest person in attendance was Monica’s 6 week old baby who was well behaved but nearly stole the show: some design is just irresistible. Of course, young son Hugo, who has his own office in the Acre office (Hugo Bureau: check out their site!), patiently took it all in.
