An Anishinaabe writer, professor and activist encouraged a crowd at Oinpegitjoig, or Pabineau First Nation, to continue the reconciliation progress that his late father started.

Niigaan Sinclair is travelling across Canada as part of a tour of Indigenous communities. In early April, he visited the Mi’kmaw community of Pabineau, 10 kilometres south of Bathurst.

Sinclair is the son of the late Senator Murray Sinclair, who chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and worked on the 94 calls to action.

About 35 Pabineau members and elders listened closely to Sinclair’s stories of growing up with his father, who also served as the first Indigenous judge in Manitoba’s history.
