New Brunswickers will receive an Alert Ready test message Wednesday morning as part of nationwide testing during Emergency Preparedness Week.

A release from the Department of Justice and Public Safety said the test of the emergency messaging system will take place on television, radio and compatible wireless devices connected to a LTE or 5G network.

An audible alarm will play on compatible devices, followed by a message in both official languages.

Residents will be able to tell it’s a test because the end of the message will say, “If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would have heard instructions that would assist you and your family. This is only a test, no action is required.”
