An Alberta man once accused of being part of a major cross-border drug-trafficking operation involving Mexican cartels faces new charges alleging he shot at a moving vehicle on city streets in southeast New Brunswick.
New Brunswick RCMP announced Friday that Jarrett Mackenzie, 35, has been charged with firearms offences. Police say that after his arrest on March 17, he was remanded to a provincial jail in Shediac.
“Shortly after, he tried to escape the jail but was quickly apprehended,” RCMP said Friday in a news release that disclosed the shooting and the escape attempt for the first time about 10 days after the alleged events.
