2022 Shediac Summer Nights

Summer Nights will be very lively this summer on Parlee Beach in Shediac. About 50 shows will be presented on the second floor of the Euston Park Restaurant from June 10 to September 3, 2022. “Les Soirs d’été 2022 Shediac Summer Nights” is a real festival that will feature about 50 artists from the Maritimes, Quebec, Manitoba, Louisiana and France!

The owners of Euston Park, Gene and Susan Cormier, used to rent out the large room upstairs in the restaurant to private groups and events, but this year, they decided to do something different. “I heard artist agent Carol Doucet in a radio interview make a plea to businesses and municipalities to make an extra effort this year to hire artists. They really need to work, both the artists and their musicians and technical crews. I had also heard a lot about the series of shows she had organized in her backyard throughout the summer of 2021. I thought I’d try to do my part,” says Gene Cormier.

Le Grenier musique’s Director, Carol Doucet, was surprised to receive such an offer earlier this year. “I thought it was very generous of him to offer us this venue. We can seat 150 people inside, and if the weather is good, we can open the patio and add another 150. Only those who buy a ticket for the show will have access to this wonderful terrace on Parlee Beach. We are sure that people will be there. Plus, it’s the only restaurant on site,” she says.

“My friends and neighbors ask me if I’m going to host Summer Nights in my backyard again this year. I tell them I’ve upgraded it to Parlee Beach and that I’m doing 50 shows instead of 10! They don’t believe me at first until they realize I’m serious,” says Carol Doucet with a laugh.

Michel Mallet, Manager of Parlee Beach Provincial Park, is extremely excited about this partnership project. “For us, this project is of great importance and fits right into our plans for the development of the beach and the park. Parlee is already a tourism jewel in New Brunswick, and we are pleased to further elevate the Parlee experience with such a high caliber of artists. This project will not only contribute to the artists’ development but also provide them with a broader audience,” he says. Locals and tourists alike are looking forward to the return of live music.

Varied programming
As Carol Doucet, who is responsible for the artistic programming of the series, explains, the shows will begin on June 10 and run through Labor Day weekend in early September. “We’re starting with Friday and Saturday nights, but soon we’ll be adding Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons or evenings,” she explains.

The first show on Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m. will be Dave Carroll. He is one of the Maritime artists that I have always really enjoyed,” says Carol Doucet. I’ve seen him perform a few times at the East Coast Music Awards. I’ve always been a fan of his song and video “United Breaks Guitar”, that’s what really propelled him beyond the Maritimes. Based in Halifax, Dave Carroll is a songwriter, writer, and lecturer who also plays in the band Sons of Maxwell. He has performed in at least 34 countries.

Other performers on the schedule for June include Les Improbables on Saturday, June 11; Emilie Landry on Friday, June 17; The Divorcees on Saturday, June 18; Winston Band on Thursday, June 23; La Patente on Friday, June 24; Theresa Malenfant on Saturday, June 25; and The Revelerson Sunday, June 26. All June shows are at 8 p.m.
