Newfoundland’s Adrian House is a phenomenally creative musician who seamlessly blends the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s British Invasion with elements of Rock, Folk, Country, Jazz, and Alternative musical styles. His impressive songwriting and musical compositions have been hailed as “expressive, honest and above all, impactful, in all of the ways that count” by the Newfoundland Herald“, and his music has garnered media attention across local and national CBC programs, the Saltwire Network, and nationally on Rogers Hometown Hockey. Adrian’s most recent album “Lookin’ Up” reached the #2 position on Halifax’s CKDU radio station, and #82 on Earshot’s Top 200. The multi-dimensional, bilingual artist is well known for his wide ranging musical diversity – having performed as a semi-finalist at the 2021 Festival International de la Chanson de Granby, headed up a Hank Williams tribute band, recorded his song “Travellin’ On” with the St. John’s Gay Male Chorus, and though non-Indigenous himself, has been a member of Mi’kmaq drum group Wabe’k Muin since 2008. On his most recent album “Lookin’ Up”, Adrian collaborated with Hey Rosetta! members Josh Ward and Mara Pellerin, who are featured on his brand new single from the project, called “Changes”, set for release on Friday, April 1 2022.

Featured on Adrian’s third album, “Changes” is an upbeat, cheerful, 60’s inspired track that includes some of Newfoundland & Labrador’s most well known artists. Recorded in St. John’s, NL, the track was produced by local artist and producer Jake Nicholl. Hey Rosetta’s Josh Ward plays bass on the track, with background vocals supplied by vocalist Mara Pellerin.About “Changes”:

Cheerful, encouraging, and upbeat, “Changes” is a tremendously catchy and optimistic song about making it through hard times. Written nearly five years ago, Adrian was first inspired by the fun, endearing melody of the song, and began writing it after singing his ideas into his handheld voice recorder. With the goal of writing a positive and uplifting track, “Changes” was created as a reminder that everyone goes through hard times, and that accepting the challenges of life will help us make it through. Inspired by human perseverance, Adrian calls the song “a celebration of life”, and adds “the song is about making that positive choice, having the guts to choose to be happy and embrace life. Blending Indie-Folk elements with Adrian’s coveted British Invasion sound, the song’s universal, encouraging message about accepting life and its challenges is aimed at bringing a moment of joy into listeners’ lives.

Recorded completely in analog at Studio J in St. John’s, NL, House teamed up with Hey Rosetta! artists Mara Pellerin, who recorded vocals on the song, and bass player Josh Ward, who is credited with the funky, Fleetwood Mac “Dreams” inspired bassline. The song challenged Adrian to record higher notes that he was used to, and layer chords multiple times to create a full-bodied sound.

Quote:

“When you’re in touch with yourself on the inside, it doesn’t matter what happens around you, how much things change (which they inevitably will): you’ll get through it. You’ve got the strength inside to get through it.” – Adrian House

Biography:

Whether solo or with his garage rock band The Connexions, St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador (NL) singer-songwriter Adrian House has never been one to stick to the main path.  House, bilingual, last year became the first Newfoundlander ever to reach the semi-finals of the Festival International de Chanson de Granby, Quebec, where he was welcomed as “charming…a refreshing presence.” (La Voix de l’est). Add his love of chanson français to rock ‘n roll, folk, country, and r&b and you will get an idea of his rich, distinctive sound, rooted in the classic era of the 1950s and 60s.

In October, 2020, House wowed Maritime audiences by touring around all 3 provinces on his bicycle, playing 10 shows. It was a unique way to showcase his 2019 album Lookin’ Up, which was hailed as “a great sound coming out of Newfoundland” by CBC’s East Coast Music Hour, comparing it to classic British Invasion.

A total of 6 Music NL award nominations have been accorded this hardworking musician over the years, and a browse through his impressive catalog will tell you why. Take 2016’s Love a Man for example, the daring title track of which is about the awakening of love between two men. Fred’s Records called it “a must have for your record collection.” Airplay throughout Atlantic Canada resulted, and a 2018 solo tour to Ontario.
