The top scorer in our recent Oscar contest was Raymond Goldstone, Dean of Students, Emeritus, at UCLA. Although the rules required that entrants be residents of Canada this obstacle was insufficient to discourage our champion. Apparently he was content with achieving a high score without being able to win the contest.
Some folks are speculating that the remarkable high score can be attributed to Mr. Goldstone’s proximity to the awards action. However, given the high security mounted by PricewaterhouseCoopers the only way he could have accessed the awards secrets was by some form of clairvoyance or other paranormal skulduggery. As for us, we remain sufficiently baffled by how Oscar winners are chosen—involving a strange mix of emotion, ability and who they are wearing—that any speculation about how the high score was achieved just plain wears us out.
So we congratulate Mr. Goldstone and invite him to move to Canada so he will be eligible to win in next year’s contest.
