This is one of the hardest working pieces of solar “technology” on the farm and it has paid for itself many times over by now. I came up
with the plans in 2018 and the handiest man ryan wood helped me turn my wacky dreams into reality. The basic concept is that air enters the bottom of the beer can collector and heats up as it passes through the tubes being pulled upwards by the power of convection. The hot air enters the boxes where herbs, flowers, mushrooms, roots, berries, etc are laid out on screens. The hot air pulls the moisture up and out the top of the box through adjustable vents and dries out whatever we have inside giving us an electricity free way to preserve food.
It obviously depends on the sun shining to work, but with a little patience and attention we can dry all kinds of things quickly and easily.
This is only 1 of the fantastic sun gathering schemes I will be talking about in the upcoming “Sun Farming” workshop on august 21st. foodsgoodfarm@gmail.com for more info
