The provincial government is in the running to buy just over 106,000 acres of land that AV Group has put up for sale just days before shutting down its Nackawic mill.
Natural Resources Minister John Herron said the timberland is associated with the Nackawic pulp mill and he’d like to keep it that way.
“It is vital that that land continues to be associated with the wood basket to ensure that there’s sufficient fibre to have a solution for that Nackawic region,” Herron told reporters on Wednesday.
The 106,574 acres was listed by Boston-based real estate broker LandVest.
