Jean Ketch brought two hooked rugs to Government House in Fredericton on Saturday to have them included in the New Brunswick Mat Registry.

The registry is a provincewide project documenting hooked rugs made in New Brunswick that are at least 25 years old.

One of Ketch’s rugs includes a heraldic shield filled with items like a curling stone, a baseball bat and a hockey stick.

“This is a history of my family,” Ketch says, explaining that every object on the rug symbolizes a loved one.

Ketch began hooking around 1980 and was a founding member of Fredericton’s Heritage Rug Hooking Guild.
