The Caraquet hospital’s emergency department will operate at reduced capacity during the overnights this weekend because of a doctor shortage, which is expected to cause longer waits for some patients, the Vitalité Health Network says.
The “temporary slowdown” at Enfant-Jésus RHSJ Hospital will take effect between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. each night, starting Friday, according to a news release.
“The emergency department will remain open at all times, with medical coverage available 24 hours a day,” Vitalité said.
All patients who visit the ER will be assessed by a triage nurse and those who require immediate care will receive the care they need.
But patients with less urgent conditions should expect longer wait times during the slowdown,
