The New Brunswick government is warning horse owners of potential exposure to equine herpesvirus EHV-1 following a horse show in Sussex on Tuesday.
A provincial advisory urges owners, trainers and exhibitors who attended the Kings County Fair Draft Horse Show to take immediate precautions.
“A 4-H horse that participated in the event originated from the same boarding facility as another horse that was recently confirmed positive for EHV-1,” Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Nicole Wanamaker said in the advisory.
Dr. Jordan Koivu, a veterinarian and owner of Maritime Equine Veterinary Services, said the one confirmed case is in New Brunswick.
