A large RCMP response in Rogersville on Sunday afternoon led to confusion among residents, who were kept in the dark for 24 hours without any information from police to gauge what was happening.

“When you see 12 police cars and no alert and nothing was put out, it’s just concerning,” said Chantal Carter, who lives in Rogersville, a community of more than 1,000 residents about 50 kilometres south of Miramichi. 

“Obviously, if you see that many cops present, that means it’s something serious.”

An RCMP news release issued at 4 p.m. on Monday said officers from Richibucto were dispatched to Rogersville around 4:22 p.m.
