A new report from the New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity highlights the low wages for many working in the non-profit sector.
Workers often have few benefits and precarious work while earning a salary well below the provincial average, the report said.
Cecilia Pérez Plancarte, project co-ordinator for the coalition, said said the average annual salary in the province for the non-profit sector is $33,000, compared to the average provincial salary of $53,000.
She added that it’s a women-dominated sector, making up about two-thirds of the workforce.
“We usually tend to associate this care work or community work to women and we place a stereotype to these types of jobs and we undervalue it.
