Fredericton police have identified a woman whose remains were found in an encampment that burned on the city’s north side in March.

Anne Victoria Martin-McKay is the woman whose remains were found after a fire in a wooded area near Two Nations Crossing on March 26, the Fredericton Police Force say in a news release.

The news release says the death of the 50-year-old is not suspicious, though the cause has not yet been determined.

Fredericton police declined an interview request with Chief Gary Forward about why it took so long to identify Martin-McKay.

“With respect to identification timelines, the process can be complex and may require coordination with multiple investigative and forensic partners,” police spokesperson Sonya Gilks said in an email.
