New Brunswick RCMP say they’ll use drones to help with their investigation into thefts from vehicles in Oromocto.
But the force doesn’t use drones for widespread surveillance, Cpl. Hans Ouellette said after the RCMP issued a news release about using them to find the Oromocto thieves.
Ouellette, a drone pilot himself, said RCMP have used the devices since about 2010, but there are limits on when they can be used.
“They’re actually used by the RCMP to capture aerial images and videos basically to support RCMP law enforcement and public safety activities,” he said in an interview with Information Morning Fredericton.
He said RCMP drones capture both still photos and video,
