Saint John city council voted to keep the current police board but make changes to how the force is governed following an independent review by a consulting firm.
City councillors voted in favor of the recommendations in a special meeting of council held virtually on Wednesday. The decision follows Coun. Gerry Lowe’s call in September to dissolve the Saint John Board of Police Commissioners.
Lowe motioned to convert it to a city department model, which would give council greater influence in policing.
