Moncton council ended its term by voting down a plan to expand a seniors’ housing complex that neighbours had opposed.
The 8-2 vote Monday rejected zoning changes required for a six-storey, 65-unit expansion of Peoples Park Tower on St. George Boulevard. The non-profit offers housing and assisted living for people aged 55 and up.
It was the final vote cast during the last meeting of the council elected in 2021. A new council will be elected Monday.
Stephen Davies, representing Peoples Park Tower, told reporters the organization will now have to consider other plans for the site to meet housing demand.
“We did spend a fair amount of time and effort in being considerate of our neighbours,” Davies said.
