New Brunswick food banks say a surge visits has them “beyond capacity.”
According to Feed N.B., the provincial association for food banks, they are now seeing around 50,000 food bank visits per month across the province.
This is about 55 per cent more than what Food Banks Canada reported for New Brunswick in 2025, which was about 32,000 visits.
“I keep saying the same thing, we’re in uncharted territory,” said Feed N.B. director Stéphane Sirois. “Food bank usage has never been this high in the last 50 years.”
Operational challenges
One of Fredericton’s food banks saw 85 new families in April and is reporting an average of 90 new visitors a month over the past year.
