New Brunswick’s suicide fatality review committee has observed a trend of men not using available mental-health services before taking their own lives.
Documents released through a right to information request show committee members questioned why this is happening, and whether mental-health services could be adjusted to better meet the needs of men.
Meeting minutes show the committee first identified men as a “subject area to look at” in December 2024.
The group also discussed trends around male suicide in January 2025, according to the meeting minutes, and the next month flagged “masculinity issue” as a possible risk factor.
