Just outside the Town of Salisbury, a large residence has been sitting unused for a few years.

The 12-bedroom home on Homestead Road in the southeastern New Brunswick community originally opened in 2010 as a seniors home and then became a rooming house. But, as of recently, it’s been purchased by the non-profit group Alternative Residences for use as a transitional housing project.

“Through multiple owners as a rooming house, it actually fell into a bit of a disrepair and we were able to fix it up and get it exactly where it is today … It’s a great looking facility,” said Al Pendergast, executive director of the group.

The renovations were done with help from a $250,000 government contribution through the New Brunswick Housing Corporation,
