Moncton councillors heard public feedback on a proposed crime plan during a sparsely attended special council meeting Thursday.

About 20 people attended the meeting held just weeks before a municipal election in which several candidates say public safety is a key issue.

The meeting was held to solicit views on a plan released April 7 that lays out various ways to cut the crime rate and change perceptions about community safety.

The plan drafted by a council committee identifies five goals. including 10 per cent reductions in crime rates annually, and lists recommendations to meet the targets.
