The Fredericton Police Force is warning the public about a jump in drug overdoses.
Police are linking the overdoses to a “toxic and unpredictable” illicit drug supply, according to Constable Gerik Skoretz, a criminal intelligence officer, meaning people may not know what they’re taking.
Officers had responded to nine overdose calls in the last 48 hours when police issued the warning Thursday.
“Calling 911 can save a life,” Skoretz said. “No one will get in trouble if they call and ask for help.”
That’s because of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act, which provides legal protection for people who call for help during an overdose and have a small amount of drugs on them.
Skoretz said there are no exceptions to that rule,
