The leader of New Brunswick’s Green Party is calling for legislation and the creation of a legislative committee to oversee the activities of a provincial government security office.

David Coon says it has “always nagged at me” that the office of the provincial security adviser exists without any legal framework and without any scrutiny from elected officials.

“It’s opaque to the legislative assembly,” Coon said.

“It’s not transparent in any way, and there is no legislative guidance, either through a statute or an oversight committee from the legislature, to ensure the proper guardrails are there to protect the public’s rights.”
