Two weeks after it was announced that a temporary homeless shelter in Fredericton would close as planned but with no replacement lined up, progress is at a standstill. 

Both a housing policy researcher and the non-profit hoping to run a new shelter warn that bureaucracy from provincial and city governments is getting in the way of helping a vulnerable population. 

“Right now we’re like in a sort of a giant game of Pong where we just get sort of bounced back and forth between two paddles and we’re not getting anywhere,” said Warren Maddox, executive director of Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc.
