The City of Fredericton is moving forward with a new fire station in a rapidly growing part of the municipality.

The city plans to use a plot of land at 750 Prospect St. to build its fifth fire station, geared toward serving the southwestern corner of Fredericton.

“It was a prime location and of the half a dozen properties that we looked at, it had the best overall scores for all of the characteristics that we’re looking for,” said Fredericton Fire Chief Dwayne Killingbeck, following Monday evening’s council meeting.

Those characteristics included it being on a major thoroughfare with easy access to highways,
