The president of the Atlantic Salmon Federation says last week’s funding announcement for the species was “a breath of fresh air.”
“There’s a real south-to-north gradient, where the northern populations are quite healthy, and then the southern populations are having a much tougher time — so, in New Brunswick, that gradient stays true,” Nathan Wilbur of the salmon federation said.
“Nonetheless, all salmon populations in New Brunswick are struggling right now and need a lot of help.”
Several Atlantic salmon species are listed as endangered by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada,
