An investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada says a helicopter experienced an “inflight breakup” before crashing in southern New Brunswick on the weekend, killing the pilot.

Vincent Van Zutphen of Mabou, N.S., died when his Robinson R-44 helicopter crashed Saturday en route from Fredericton to the airport in Sussex.

Allan Chaulk, a senior regional investigator with the safety board, said a cause hasn’t been determined.

But based on observations at the crash site in the Norton area, investigators believe the helicopter experienced an “inflight breakup.”
