The New Brunswick government will demolish a bridge near Miramichi previously expected to remain in place for use by recreation vehicles.

Chuck Chiasson, the province’s minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, posted a statement on Facebook on Thursday saying the Anderson Bridge will be demolished.

Chiasson wrote that Quad NB and Snowmobile NB are no longer seeking to use the span over the Northwest Miramichi River.

“This decision comes after a careful review of the structure and an unknown scope of additional work required to make the bridge safe to use,” Chiasson wrote.

“As such, DTI will begin preparations for the demolition of the structure.”

It’s unclear how much it will cost to demolish.
