Responses have been mixed to New Brunswick’s new mining strategy, which the Holt government hopes will revive the sector and generate economic growth and well-paying jobs.

Premier Susan Holt announced the strategy at a mining conference in Toronto on Monday, saying development would occur under strong environmental standards and with “meaningful” partnerships with Indigenous communities.

“New Brunswick has what the world wants, and we have a responsibility to develop those resources the right way,” Holt said.

Reaction from stakeholders and others has ranged from excitement to concern.
