A New Brunswick business bought the former Coastal Shell Products plant in Richibucto.

BearCan, a construction company based in Rexton, plans to use the facility to grow their operations and create new jobs in the small coastal community.

After an eight-year legal battle with the former shellfish disposal plant over reports of unpleasant odours in the community, some Richibucto residents are hesitant about new operations on the site.

“It’s got great potential, great access and it allows us to take the overflow of whatever our trust and wall plant would have,” said BearCan CEO Paul Thebeau.

“All we’re doing creates no smell. If you can imagine, we’re just cutting lumber.”

BearCan specializes in creating rapid and affordable houses in rural communities.
