An organization helping newcomers settle in New Brunswick is glad the federal government is allowing more French-speaking immigrants to settle in communities outside Quebec, but it says more funding is needed.

In an effort to bolster francophone immigration outside Quebec, the federal government has added 5,000 spaces this year. Some of these would be for New Brunswick but there was no specific number.

“I’m certainly encouraged by the importance that the federal government has put on the increased number of francophone immigrants,” Ben McNamara, executive director of the New Brunswick Multicultural Council,
