As the number of people experiencing homelessness in the province continues to rise, Brenda MacCallum says residents are struggling with how to respond to people in crisis.

The director of community development for The Fundy Regional Service Commission hopes a new toolkit for residents, business owners and municipal staff will help.

“We heard the need for resources; we heard the need for information,” MacCallum said.

The new toolkit, which was created with the help of local organizations, covers situations that are becoming more common, such as finding a needle, encountering someone sleeping in your entryway or someone having a mental health crisis.

“It’s upsetting and can be scary as well,” said McCallum.
