The rate of New Brunswickers dying from avoidable causes remains above the national average, according to a new report from the New Brunswick Health Council.
The report released Tuesday says that from 2019 to 2022, an average of 202.5 per 100,000 New Brunswickers a year had a cause of death that “could have been avoided … with the prevention and care options that exist.”
This compares to 193.1 per 100,000 nationwide.
But the gap between New Brunswick and the rest of Canada has narrowed. Between 2015 and 2017, an average of 215.4 per 100,000 New Brunswickers a year died from avoidable causes.
