The band BAIE launches this Friday, October 7, 2022, its first album entitled “Grand Bleu”. BAIE is composed of Chloé Breault (bass and vocals), Matt Boudreau (keyboards, guitars, and vocals), and Marc-André Boudreau (electric guitar and vocals). Joining the trio on stage this week for two big launch shows are drummer Maxence Cormier (Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire), guitarist Mico Roy (Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire), and backup singers Katrine Noël (Les Hay Babies) and Tanya Brideau (actress). The show will be directed by none other than Matthieu Girard.
The show launches with elaborate sets, sound and funky lighting will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Caraquet Cultural Centre and Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton. Both shows are at 8pm. Tickets are on sale at both venues.
The Acadian power trio’s lyrics are full of adventures, and are even sometimes psychedelic, with a sound that blends disco and rock from the 70’s up to today’s pop. This project is a way for these three artists to get away from their respective individual musical activities. Together, they produce a different sound while experimenting with innovative musical ideas that they don’t use in their solo careers.
An original album in the Acadian musical landscape
“Grand Bleu” features 11 new songs. The album was produced by Mico Roy and Katrine Noël. The vocal harmonies touch the soul as do the guitar reverbs that echo the light bass lines to offer a sound halfway between Beau Dommage and the Beatles, while recalling the sunny vibrations of the Beach Boys. “Grand Bleu” is an ode to love stories and to the Baie des Chaleurs, all with a nostalgic backdrop. As the artists explain, “Listening to BAIE is like diving into love journeys and heart-warming stories through music that tastes like fruit punch and Froot Loops.”
“Colle-moi” the song that sticks in your head!
After releasing a first radio single last August, the title track of the album “Grand Bleu”, BAIE launches this Friday the new track “Colle-moi” who’s haunting 80’s tune reminds us of ABBA. Chloé Breault tells with a bit of nostalgia and humor the genesis of this track: “It’s one of the first songs composed by BAIE. I remember very well because we were on break from a tour in France, more precisely in Saint-Tropez Matt and I, and the melody came to us on a mini piano. We then wrote the lyrics once we were back in Marseille. You could say that it’s a song that has already traveled a lot and it’s one of my favorite songs on the album; it’s like a big warm glue to help us make the summer last a little bit longer”, she explains. Marc-André adds: “We worked hard to find the tempo and the vibe that we loved the most! Plus, for me, it’s one of the first guitar riffs that I wrote for the album, so it has sentimental value, and I can’t wait to play it with a full band!” Matt Boudreau confirms, “Colle-moi was born out of a desire to write a cheese song, and it took at least eight different forms. We went hyper disco, almost 90’s, even techno. Finally, we came back to our roots by getting closer to our influences and we ended up somewhere we never thought we would. We’re very proud of this song,” he says.
Residency and two launches this week
The band is in residence at the Caraquet Cultural Center this week to prepare the show with the help of artistic director Mathieu Girard. This is an opportunity for the musicians to work on the scenography, the transitions between songs but also the lighting, sound, and musical arrangements. The shows will take place:
– Friday, October 7, 2022 – 8 p.m.: Caraquet Cultural Center
– Saturday, October 8, 2022 – 8:00 p.m.: Capitol Theatre in Moncton
“Grand Bleu” is released by the label Le Grenier musique. The album was produced in part with the support of Musicaction Canada and Music New Brunswick. It will be available on all digital platforms as well as in CD format as of Friday, October 7th, and in vinyl format in a few months.
