Riverview is hoping to get its first French school to meet the needs of the growing francophone and bilingual population in the southeast New Brunswick town.
Mayor Andrew LeBlanc says town council wrote a letter to the provincial government voicing its support for a K-8 school and calling it a priority for the town, which is across the Petitcodiac River from Moncton.
“We recognize that we want to do what we can to increase access to francophone education,” LeBlanc said in an interview Friday about the letter council announced earlier in the week.
He says about 8.5 per cent of residents in the town of about 20,000 are francophone,
