The federal government is investing over $2.3 million toward 14 projects that aim to restore and protect the St. John River, also known as the Wolastoq River.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature, Wade Grant, made the announcement on Saturday in Fredericton.
“Many stressors are threatening the river’s water quality and ecological health,” Grant told the crowd, noting that urban development has led to an increase of pollutants and contaminants in the water.
Grant said over half of New Brunswick’s population lives within the watershed and approximately 20 per cent of those people rely on the river as a source of drinking water.
