With 2025 now in the rear view mirror, municipalities and their mayors are looking ahead at what’s to come in 2026.
Information Morning Moncton asked six eastern New Brunswick mayors to reflect on the needs of their communities over the past year and what they’re carrying forward into the year ahead — especially as communities prepare for municipal elections in May.

It was a surprising year for Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault in Moncton, as she didn’t expect to step into the role as mayor.
She entered the position as acting mayor after former mayor Dawn Arnold was appointed to the Senate in March.
During her short time in office, Thériault said she’s been happy to see so much done.

“We have many projects on the go, whether it’s our urban plan … we have our Riverfront Park, we have our St. George Street Improvement Plan, we have the new science centre that’s coming up,” said Thériault.
But housing, homelessness and crime continue to be areas of concern for the city.

She said the city needs to think outside of the box when it comes to addressing these issues and bring the public and private sectors onside.
