Carl Mayotte Jazz Ensemble

Winner of the 2020-2021 Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation title, Carl Mayotte is one of the most popular young bassists and jazz musicians in Quebec and Canada. Having started his professional career at the age of 16 and completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill University, his virtuosity and versatility have been noticed by several musicians and critics from Canadian jazz great Alain Caron to the Bass Magazine. Carl’s third album, Escale, won him a Félix award (the equivalent of the Grammy awards in Quebec) for Jazz Album of the Year in 2022. He just release a new album name Carnaval, which is a tribute to his passion for Brazilian and Latin music.

Carl brings his ensemble to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for a performance on Friday May 9.
